On April 30th,2025, CEN ( Comite Europeen de Normalisation) releases the newest PFAS standard EN17681-1:2025, which follows on the old standard EN17681-1:2022. The new standard adopts stricter technology to test the PFAS and will officially come to effect on 31th October, 2025.
Different from EN17681-1:2022 which adopts methanol extraction method, EN17681-1:2025 introduces into alkaline hydrolysis technology using the mixed solution of methanol and sodium hydroxide for extraction, which makes the testing ability of PFAS improves dramatically especially for some telomerized fluoroalcohol (n:2 FTOHs, n=4,6,8,10), that means the products which can pass the PFAS testing before may fail based on the newest standard of EN17681-1:2025.
